I have been planning to go up Kili for a while. This is a tentative date. Hopefully by May 2011 if everything goes right we can start booking our plane tickets.

My plan it to fly into Nairobi. Do some sightseeing around Nairobi. Then take a bus to Tanzania a day or two later. I will try to limit the use of porters as much as I can. You are not allowed to go up without a guide and porters, so I will try to find a reputable agency that doesn't overcharge for this stuff and exploit their poor workers. If anyone has an suggestions for agencies, let me know.

Plane tickets to Nairobi are about $1500. The guide and porters might run us a few hundred bucks each. Again as the date approaches, I will have a better idea of all the costs. I also would like to perhaps do some other sightseeing while we are down there. I would love to maybe camp out in the Serengeti for a few days and chill out in Lake Victoria.

Therefore this trip will take approximately 2 weeks.

Another thing is that I want to backpack together as a group in the Adirondacks on April 2011 before we book the trip. I want to see how the group dynamic is.

I did Kilimanjaro last September and it was a great experience! I went with Ahsante Tours, which is based in Moshi. I highly recommend them! I'd be happy to answer questions if you have any.
