I'm going to the Adirondacks this weekend and I would like to invite a few of you to join us. I am going on a hike that is booked already but I thought some people might want to tag along, camp out and hang out with us in the dacks before and after our hike on Saturday. There are lots of hikes on Saturday and we are doing a hike with Hudson Valley Hikers on Sunday up one of the 4000 footers in Adirondacks, MacNaughton, at which experience hikers are invited.
This is not a beginners trip though. You must know how to read a map and find your way in and out of the woods on your own. You are responsible for your own safety and I am only inviting you to come along and hang out.
A few other people are going on different hikes up there. You could find out up in the dacks what they are doing and decide. They will probably involve doing about 10 miles and climbing 4000 feet in one day.
When you RSVP you must fill out all the information on the questionnaire. Also in your RSVP indicate whether you're driving or you need a ride. Whether you want to go up MacNaughton on Sunday or not. I addition what time can you leave and where are you leaving from. For the convenience of drivers and to get a good night sleep, most people leave around 3 to 4pm no later than that and usually you have to catch a ride to either Jersey or Westchester.
Therefore location and time gives me a good way to pair you up with a ride.
You will need:
A sleeping bag.
Tent (can be shared, plenty of people have tents. just indicate in your RSVP that you want to share a tent.) We will be camping at a car camping site.
Polyester clothing (NO COTTON, COTTON KILLS)
Hiking boots
Headlamp
2 bottles of at least 1L each to fill up and carry water with you on the hikes.
Waterproof jacket
Camping stove, if you don't have one people will share theirs.
The most important thing is, at night, DON'T leave ANY FOOD or ANYTHING WITH A SCENT IN YOUR BAG or a BEAR MAY COME and disturb your sleep or worse. NOTHING absolutely nothing must remain in your bag. Everything that is food or has a scent like deorant or toothpaste or soap must go in the trunk of your car. Not in the backseat either because bears break windows.
Any question, please email me.
So far Dan Zhu has space for maybe one or two people as people RSVP maybe more.
The Adirondacks is 5.5 hour drive from NYC. Don't expect to be back before midnight on Sunday or later.
Thanks,
Francisco
