Kids, I am hoping to go up to the Dacks for leaf peeping season and have a blast.
Last year we hit the leaves on the perfect weekend. Maybe we might get lucky this year again.
My plan is to do on Saturday an tough hiker and on Sunday a lighter hike. Since Monday is Columbus Day some people have it off and I plan to stay until Monday up in the Dacks. If anyone wants to leave on Sunday night, you are welcome to do so too.
This is also Thanksgiving Day Weekend in Canada so be prepared for the thousands of Canadians in the Daks. They all love to hike. Number one reason why we will have to start at 6am on Saturday, we have to beat them to the parking lot otherwise we will have to hike a few extra miles to the cars. It is the busiest weekend in the Adirondacks.
Saturday hike:
Haystack, Marcy, Gray and Skylight peaks. This I believe is a 25 mile hike with an elevation gain of about 9000. The toughest part is dropping a few thousand feet to go down to skylight and then going all the way back up. We will start at 6am. This is an advanced hike and I will only take strong hikers.
For those of you who are not strong hikers I will recommend just doing Marcy. Marcy is an awesome hike. It is 15 miles and a 4000 foot elevation. Obviously this is not a trip for beginners and I will not be leading this hike. We are all going on our own, maybe partnering up with one person who is doing the same trail.
If you come with us you must be able to read a map and get out of the woods on your own. I am not responsible for anyone's safety, you are responsible for your own safety.
Sunday hike:
We will go up Redfield and Cliff mountain. This is a 15 mile hike, I think.
We will probably stay at Paradox Lake campsite but we will see how things pan out. Last year we stayed at Paradox and had a blast. So yes, we will be CAMPING.
To camp out in October in the Adirondacks you will need at 15 to 20 degree sleeping bag.
Equipment:
Polyester hiking clothing (NO COTTON, COTTON KILLS)
Headlamp
Sleeping bag (15 to 20F rating)
Hat
Gloves
Gaiters
Hiking boots
Tent (we share tents and we have plenty of those, so if you don't have one just RSVP saying you want to share a tent)
2 1L bottles of water
Water purifying tablets or a water filter.
On Saturday or Sunday or both we will try to hit the microbrewery in Lake Placid. We LOVE BEER!!!

there are 2 microbreweries in lake placid (great adirondack brewing co. being the other one)!
i definitely need a ride for 2 please...
sharing the expense...goes without saying...
Anne, I was thinking of that but it is Turkey Day in Canada on Monday. I think everything is going to be closed, I think? Ask Dorothy. She is the Canadian. She would know.
Anyone down for Montreal this weekend?? have an extra day after all...
Done.
Usually we have plenty of spots in the cars. Just RSVP and a week or two before we will sort the car situation out. Right now it is too early to tell who is coming for sure or not.
I want to go, but I'd need a ride...will there be extra spots in cars?
There is no maybe button because I disabled it. You either come or not. Maybe rsvps just make my life harder arranging rides so they are useless. Besides you can't be in a dual state unless you're a particle.
