We spent last Thanksgiving in the Whites and it was a blast. Let's do it again this year. People will either leave before Turkey Day or come up after depending on family obligations. I might come up during Turkey Day since my family usually has Thanksgiving dinner the night before Thanksgiving (don't ask why).
Anyhow, the white should have a nice layer of ice by then. Please bring your microspikes and crampons and ice axe with you.

I have (i.e. Mirek) made a spreadsheet to keep track of several things:
- which day you will be coming and leaving
- if you have found a ride or can provide one
- if you have already registered (you need to call the hostel or use the online form)
- FOOD : there will by dinner provided at the hostel for Thursday, last year a believe it was $15/head. We should have a count so we can tell Dave (manager) how many people to expect and bring more food if necessary.
Friday and Saturday - we will have dinners at the hostel organized by ourselves, I'll be bringing some precooked food (bot veggies and meats) and some cooking at the spot. I'll be collecting a deposit $15 per head and night. Ill be preparing some of the food in advance so we don't spend too much time cooking and shopping (rather than eating and drinking), so anyone who is interested needs to paypal me before Nov 18. Send me a note and I will replay with my paypal account details. There will be no refund after Nov 18 for food (unless the whole trip is cancelled).
- HIKES - there are no officially organized hikes, usually smaller groups form the day before depending on the weather and ambitions of hikers etc.
Folks, fyi, I just called AMC at Pinkham Notch (603-466-2721) for trail conditions, they suggested to bring microspikes - no need for crampons or heavy mountaineering boots.

Mostly packed! Bringing LOTS of food (of the non-meat variety) to share... Brussel Sprouts, green beans, asparagus, sweet potatoes, pumpkin bread (to be baked), quinoa, chips and hummus... okay so maybe I let myself go to the grocery store hungry again... but now that I've got it... might as well share!

Hey All, I spoke with Harlan (hostel manager) this evening and he needs a count of how many of us will be eatin' Turkey on Thanksgiving, so he'll know what size fowl to buy. He knows a lot of us on vegetarians and therefore won't be gobble gobbling on the bird. I'll add a column to the spreadsheet for this and/or you can reply to this post if you prefer but I need numbers people! I told him I'd email him with a head count.

There might be some confusion about the Thursday dinner. I am collecting same amount of $12 for each day, including Thursday. Dave (manager) is buying the turkey for us and will be cooking it during Thursday, and I will be doing sides and the vegetarian stuff, and Dave will join us for the dinners other days. The $12 is the same charge for Thursday, regardless if you eat Turkey or vegetarian, but please sign the spreadsheet if you plan to eat turkey (you will be able to try the vegetarian food too, of course) . If we have a surplus of $$, we may buy some communal beer or get more desserts or something .

Folks, a bit dumb question here - would mountaineering boots and crampons be an overkill for the hikes? Weather.com says it'll be 20-30 F on the Washy.

Take the crampons. Since its early in the season you will find more ice than snow up top. It can get sketchy on steep slopes full of ice if you only have microspikes.

Looking at the spreadsheet there are 4 of us who are leaving on weds and coming back Sunday who don't have a ride. A quick trip to hotwire shows an SUV for about $500 to rent for those days. Just a suggestion!

Aamar I highly doubt anyone is going back Saturday. If you want to go back Saturday then take the bus back to Boston and transfer there to NYC. As for hikes they are usually planned on a whim. No one will have an idea until probably the week of the trip or more probably the day they get to NH.
