I'm an avid outdoorsman,& know Joe from my college years @ Northland in Wisconsin.I introduced Joe to Meetup.com years ago,& helped him found this excellent club.Joe, you are AMAZING!You have the biggest n'best Outdoors club on Meetup.com!
Well,it would take a few more characters than are allotted to me here, but 1 adventure that sticks in mind is my bicycling/camping trip across the US. It took me 4 months. It was an Incredible Journey. I also enjoyed my Outward Board experience. . .
I used to have my WEMT, through WMA, but it ran out more years ago than I care to remember. . .I had my beachfront Lifeguard cert two years ago, and am presently certified with the American Red Cross. I am interested in recertifying though. . .
I'm Most Definitely a 4-season backpacker.In fact,I like camping in colder climates.Less people,less bugs,and clearer skies.I LOVE the snow!I don't know the exact temp,but it was damn cold.However,if you are adequately prepared,the cold won't getcha!
My fav might be Woodpeckers-I just love hearin them chop away.On the flip-side,I guess it's humans. Some r ok,but many r constantly chatting on their cells, being loud & disrespecting the beautiful trails they're on, leaving litter & other human traces
It varies from season to season, but whatever I find that's edible. . .but you can never go wrong with the generic PB&J, spiced-up with whatever add-ons suit your taste buds. In a nutshell, I'll eat anything, anytime, anywhere!
"I live in Hell's Kitchen,Madhattan,&work at the UN. I'm a former Peace Corps volunteer (Morocco, 02-03), and have a degree in Outdoor Adventure Education.I'm down 2doing much of anything that's wilderness based, & look forward to meeting this group!"
I'm very happy to see this club so active and vibrant. Excellent Job Joe! It wasn't too long ago when I was at your place telling you about Meetup.com! I'm happy that your club has grown into what it is today, the largest Backpacking Club on Meetup.com! As per my previous discussions with you, there are still several things from a Logistic & Safety standpoint which I think you need to work on. Remember the "7 Pee's"?.Although you rarely join in on the activities that your group offers, I hope you are thinking about Safety Action Plans and Logistics, such as our mentors at Northland taught us,as both trips I've gone on with the club were lacking in this vital component. Needless to say, I have Greatly Enjoyed meeting & hiking with everyone I've met through your dynamic & thriving club. There is always room for improvement in anything we do,so please take this as constructive feedback, which it is.What is the legality of the group? What if someone got hurt & decided to sue?Are u protected?
